Lignocellulosic Biomass – A Sustainable Feedstock for Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol Fermentation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Biobutanol has been identified as a promising future biofuel. However, generally the extraction and separation of biobutanol from fermentation mixture is costly process. Therefore, idea using acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) directly biofuel were proposed to eliminate recovery ABE The feedstocks play an important role in feasibility fuel. Lignocellulosic biomass seen feedstock for production biofuels. Thus, this review, summarized three aspects namely (i) selection feedstocks, (ii) microbial (iii) hydrolysis, fermentation, purification techniques. Anaerobic together with commonly employed processes are discussed second part review. This review concludes different challenges research that can pave way commercialization

Kinetic Study of Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol Fermentation in Continuous Culture

Acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation by clostridia has shown promise for industrial-scale production of biobutanol. However, the continuous ABE fermentation suffers from low product yield, titer, and productivity. Systems analysis of the continuous ABE fermentation will offer insights into its metabolic pathway as well as into optimal fermentation design and operation. For the ABE ferment...

Separation of butanol from acetone-butanol-ethanol fermentation by a hybrid extraction-distillation process

The alternative fuel butanol can be produced via acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation from renewable resources, i.e. biomass. Expensive feedstocks and the high costs for the separation of ABE from the dilute fermentation broth in the downstream processing have so far prohibited the industrial-scale production of bio-butanol. The low productivities and butanol yields of ABE batch fermentat...

The Mechanism of the Butanol-acetone Fermentation

The question whether pyruvic acid holds a key position as an intermediate in the butanol-acetone fermentation by Clostridium acetobutylicum (Weizmann) similar to that in the alcoholic fermentation by yeast and in glycolysis by muscle has, so far, not received a decisive answer. This is mainly due to the inconsistent results obtained by different workers in this field. As in the case of corn-mea...

The Mechanism of the Butanol-acetone Fermentation

Since potassium and magnesium ions have been shown to favor the formation of acetone from pyruvate by suspensions of Clostridium acetobutylicum (Weizmann) (1) and since these cations are known to catalyze the transformation of pyruvate into phosphoenolpyruvate (2), there was a possibility that the latter may be an intermediate in the butanol-acetone fermentation. No attempt has so far been made...
